Diving Koh Tao – dive sites – description, information, underwater maps

Koh Tao, also known as the “Turtle Island,” is one of the world’s most popular scuba diving destinations and the leading place to learn to dive in Southeast Asia. Surrounded by the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand, the island attracts beginners and experienced divers throughout the year. With more than 20 unique dive sites, Koh Tao offers unforgettable underwater adventures for every level of diver.

Perfect Diving Conditions

Minimal currents, excellent visibility, and warm water temperatures between 28–30°C (82–86°F) make diving safe, comfortable, and enjoyable year-round.

Dive Sites for Every Experience Level

From shallow sandy bays ideal for beginner divers and training courses to deep pinnacles and fascinating wrecks for advanced divers, Koh Tao has something for everyone.

Incredible Marine Life

Explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, encounter graceful sea turtles, large schools of barracuda, giant groupers, and—if you’re lucky—Thailand’s famous whale sharks.

Best Time to dive Koh Tao

Diving on Koh Tao is possible all year round. The best underwater visibility is typically from March to September, when sea conditions are generally calm. March and April offer the highest chance of encountering majestic whale sharks, although sightings can never be guaranteed. During the northeast monsoon, from November to January, stronger winds may occasionally reduce visibility and create rougher sea conditions.
