General Description
Hin Wong Bay is a beautiful and relatively quiet dive site on the east coast of Koh Tao. Sheltered by steep granite hills and surrounded by clear tropical waters, the bay is known for its impressive granite boulder formations and healthy coral growth. Suitable for beginners as well as experienced divers, Hin Wong Bay offers relaxed diving with plenty of opportunities to observe a wide variety of reef life. The calm atmosphere and scenic underwater landscape also make it a popular location for snorkeling.
Location and Diving Conditions
Hin Wong Bay is located on the northeastern coast of Koh Tao and is accessible by dive boat from Koh Samui and Koh Tao. Diving depths range from approximately 3 to 22 meters, making the site suitable for training dives and recreational exploration. Water visibility typically ranges from 10 to 25 meters, with the clearest conditions usually occurring between March and September. Currents are generally mild but can occasionally become moderate along the outer reef, especially during changing tides.

Topography and Marine Life
The underwater landscape consists of large granite boulders, rocky ledges, sandy patches, and coral-covered reef slopes. Massive granite formations create small swim-throughs, overhangs, and sheltered areas that attract numerous reef species. Hard and soft corals, sponges, and sea fans provide habitat for an abundance of marine life.
Divers commonly encounter schools of fusiliers, yellowtail barracuda, bluefin trevally, batfish, rabbitfish, and snapper. Butterflyfish, angelfish, parrotfish, triggerfish, and pufferfish are regularly seen among the corals, while moray eels, blue-spotted stingrays, and octopuses often hide between the rocks. Macro enthusiasts can discover nudibranchs, shrimps, and colourful reef invertebrates. Green turtles occasionally visit the bay, and during periods of good visibility, larger pelagic fish may pass by the deeper sections of the reef.
