Deep Diver Course – PADI & IFDI

The Deep Diver course expands your limits as a diver and opens the gateway to a completely new underwater world. It guides you step-by-step to depths of up to 40 meters. This is the absolute maximum limit for recreational diving without specialized gases. At this depth, everything changes: light fades, colors dissolve into a deep blue, and the water pressure is four times higher than at the surface.

The deep diver course combines theory and practice to prepare you perfectly for these extreme conditions:

• Safe Ascents: A crucial part of the training is the controlled ascent. You will learn how to use ascent lines and how to precisely maintain vital safety stops and simulated decompression stops so that nitrogen can safely clear from your body.

• Open Water Practice: You will typically complete four open water dives alongside an experienced instructor. Each dive takes you a bit deeper. During these dives, you will practice using additional equipment, such as a separate backup air supply (stage cylinder).

• Theory Lessons: You will learn the physical laws of depth. A key focus is gas management. Because you breathe four times as much air at 40 meters as you do at the surface, you will learn to calculate exactly how long your supply will last. Emergency procedures and the prevention of decompression sickness are also a major focus.

• The Nitrogen Narcosis Test: Underwater, your instructor will give you small cognitive and dexterity tasks. You will be surprised by how much longer it takes you at depth to solve simple math problems or operate equipment. This helps you experience and correctly assess the effects of nitrogen (the so-called “deep rapture” or nitrogen narcosis) on your own body.

Prerequisites

• Minimum Age: You must be at least 15 years old.

• Certification: You need a 30m Diver or Advanced Open Water certification (or an equivalent qualification).

• Medical: A medical certificate is generally not required; you only need to sign a standard medical questionnaire.

Important: You should not fly for 24 hours after diving. The last dive ends at approximately 14:00 (2:00 PM).

Next step

The Deep Diver course prepares you for the next step – Divemaster, which is an intensive training program. It transforms you from a good diver into a true leader underwater. From that point on, you are no longer just a student. You become part of the dive school and work closely alongside experienced instructors.
