Twins dive site – Koh Tao

Twins (also known as Twin Peaks) is one of the most popular and frequently visited dive sites on Koh Tao. Renowned for its calm conditions and abundant marine life, it is an excellent dive site for divers of all experience levels. Its sheltered location provides comfortable diving conditions throughout the year, making it ideal for beginners, certified divers, and scuba training alike.

With a maximum depth of around 18 meters (60 ft) and fascinating granite rock formations surrounded by healthy coral reefs, Twins offers plenty to explore. Divers can encounter colorful clownfish, butterflyfish, angelfish, pufferfish, blue-spotted stingrays, moray eels, and an impressive variety of reef fish. Macro enthusiasts will also enjoy spotting nudibranchs, shrimp, and other small marine creatures hidden among the corals.

Thanks to its easy conditions and rich biodiversity, Twins Dive Site is a favorite location for Open Water Diver training, Advanced Open Water Adventure Dives, and relaxed fun dives. Location & Diving Conditions

• Location: Situated just off the west coast of Koh Nang Yuan, the neighboring island to Koh Tao.

• Depth: Ranges from 5 to 20 meters (16–66 ft). The shallow areas are ideal for safety stops and beginner divers.

• Visibility: Generally very good, typically ranging from 5 to 20 meters (16–66 ft), depending on weather and sea conditions.

• Current: Usually very mild or non-existent, making Twins one of the best dive sites on Koh Tao for training dives, fun dives, and underwater photography.

Topography

The Twins Dive Site consists of three granite pinnacles aligned from east to west, separated by sandy channels and surrounded by healthy coral reefs.

• Eastern Pinnacle: The shallowest of the three, beginning at around 5 meters (16 ft). It is ideal for the start of the dive, buoyancy practice, and training exercises.

• Central Pinnacle: The largest pinnacle, surrounded by deeper sandy channels and home to an abundance of reef fish and marine life.

• Western Pinnacle: Located in slightly deeper water, reaching depths of approximately 18–20 meters (60–66 ft). This area often attracts larger schools of fish and is popular with certified divers.

Adjacent to Twins is Buoyancy World, an artificial reef featuring underwater structures, hoops, and training platforms. Dive schools frequently use this area for buoyancy training, allowing student divers to practice their skills without impacting the natural coral reef.

Marine Life

Although Twins Dive Site is one of Koh Tao’s most popular training locations, it offers an impressive diversity of marine life.
The site’s most famous residents are a family of Saddleback Clownfish living in their sea anemone. To help protect them from accidental disturbance, their home is marked with a ring of stones, making it easy for divers to observe them responsibly.

The sandy seabed is home to blue-spotted stingrays, while white-eyed moray eels can often be seen peering out from rocky crevices. Schools of fusiliers, bannerfish, parrotfish, and many other colorful reef species are common throughout the dive site, creating a vibrant underwater landscape.

Lucky divers may encounter green sea turtles cruising through the reef. On rare occasions, whale sharks also pass by, making every dive at Twins an exciting opportunity to experience some of Thailand’s most iconic marine life.
